Enhance your key fob via CAN bus hacking

can_bus_hacking

[Igor] drives a 4th generation Volkswagen Golf, and decided he wanted to play around with the CAN bus for a bit. Knowing that the comfort bus is the most accessible and the safest to toy with, he started poking around to see what he could see (Google translation).

He pulled the trim off one of the rear doors and hooked into the comfort bus with an Arudino and a CAN interface module. He sniffed the bus’ traffic for a bit, then decided he would add some functionality to the car that it was sorely lacking. The car’s windows can all be rolled down by turning the key in any lock for more than a few seconds, however this cannot be done remotely. The functionality can be added via 3rd party modules or through manipulating the car’s programming with some prepackaged software, but [Igor] wanted to give it a go himself.

He programmed the Arduino to listen for longer than normal button presses coming from the remote. Once it detects that he is trying to roll the windows up or down, the Arduino issues the proper window control commands to the bus, and his wish is the car’s command.

It’s a pretty simple process, but then again he has just gotten started. We look forward to seeing what else [Igor] is able to pull off in the future. In the meantime, continue reading to see a quick video of his handiwork.

If you are interested in seeing what you might be able to do with your own car, check out this CAN bus sniffer we featured a while back.

Universe expansion: dark matter's out, anti-gravity's in, matter and antimatter still can't get along

Dark matter, we barely knew you, but before we ever found out if you were, in fact, the invisible hand pushing the cosmos apart, an Italian scientist ginned up a new theory that has anti-gravity doing the Yoko Ono to the universe's merry band of galaxies. Massimo Villata's theory assumes that both matter and antimatter have positive mass and energy density, which gets particles attracting particles and antiparticles attracting antiparticles through the force of gravity. To give dark matter the heave-ho from the galactic expansion equation, Villata supposes that the theory of general relativity applies in reverse to antimatter particles to create anti-gravity. And just as gravity pulls particles together, anti-gravity shoves them apart -- giving the universe its burgeoning waistline, no clown, king, or colonel required.

Atlas V Rocket Launch

Atlas V - Vandenberg AFB - April 24, 2011

During No Agenda #295, Adam brought up the upcoming Atlas V launch at nearby Vandenberg Air Force Base. This rocket launched a secret satellite to no doubt, spy on us – according to Adam.

No Agenda Entertainment decided to hit the road and drive down Vandenberg from Oakland. We brought along a camera and picked up a couple friends in Santa Cruz along the way. We ended up arriving at the viewing area along Corral Rd. with 30 seconds to spare! At 9:24pm, the speaker announced ’IGNITION’ and a bright light flashed a couple miles away as the rocket began its liftoff. As the rocket streaked skyward, the low sounding roar could be heard. The PA announcer counted off the SRB (solid rocket booster) separation and then the seperation of the first stage. The Atlas then soared out of site. After five or so minutes, the mission became top secret and went into stealth mode.

First light wave quantum teleportation achieved, opens door to ultra fast data transmission

Mark this day, folks, because the brainiacs have finally made a breakthrough in quantum teleportation: a team of scientists from Australia and Japan have successfully transferred a complex set of quantum data in light form. You see, previously researchers had struggled with slow performance or loss of information, but with full transmission integrity achieved -- as in blocks of qubits being destroyed in one place but instantaneously resurrected in another, without affecting their superpositions -- we're now one huge step closer to secure, high-speed quantum communication. Needless to say, this will also be a big boost for the development of powerful quantum computing, and combine that with a more bedroom friendly version of the above teleporter, we'll eventually have ourselves the best LAN party ever.

Possessed Man Eats Baby

From: Documenting Reality
By: David Muri

RESIDENTS in the township of Tabubil, Western Province, are cowering in “horror and fear” after a week-old baby was eaten alive in front of a shell-shocked crowd, allegedly by the father.

And the shocking act allegedly continued minutes later at Tabubil police station last Thursday in front of curious onlookers, including policemen and the town’s senior district court magistrate, Patrick Monouluk.

An eyewitness who is employed by Ok Tedi Mining Limited told the Post-Courier that the town is on “red alert”, with residents taking precautionary measures. He claimed parents were restricting their children from going outdoors because of fears that they could also be targets.

“This is the talk of the day on the streets here. All parent are fearing for the safety of their children because cannibals are on the loose here,” the source, who sought anonymity because of his employer’s media restrictions, claimed.

“Believe it or not I saw him eating the baby by piercing its body with his teeth while blood spilled from his mouth. Everybody watched him with fear.”

Acting Western provincial police commander Peter Philip confirmed the horrific act. He said the man entered his home at Wanbin settlement at around 10pm and started an argument with his wife who was nursing the baby.

Chief Insp Philip said after strangling the wife, he grabbed the child and started bitting its head, neck and breast.

“The child was crying in severe pain. The wife alerted neighbours who attempted unsuccessfully to take the baby from him because he was allegedly possessed by evil forces. He’d displayed unusual strength,” Chief Insp Philip said.

He was finally overpowered by task force police who led him to the police station. He said the man allegedly told magistrate Patrick Monouluk: “I won’t give you the baby because God tells me to eat the baby. It’s a threat to me,” when he asked for the baby to be handed over to him.

The “cannibal” is from the Highlands region and married to a woman from the West Sepik Province.

Chief Insp Philip said the baby was again eaten in front of Mr Monouluk and the pursuing crowd.

PPC Philip said the couple adopted the baby girl from the wife’s niece, a single mother, on January 26.

The man is in police custody while preparations are underway to have him medically examined before proper charges are laid.

“It’s a terrible thing for a human being to eat another human flesh in public view. It is the first ever cannibalism case of this kind in PNG,” the 32-year career officer said.

He said he has received a lot of calls from overseas media curious to know about the incident.

Mr Philip is appealing to young mothers not to give away their babies for adoption as they could be mistreated or face similar fate.

NASA Telescopes Help Discover Surprisingly Young Galaxy

Get larger image formats

Astronomers have uncovered one of the youngest galaxies in the distant universe, with stars that formed 13.5 billion years ago, a mere 200 million years after the Big Bang. The finding addresses questions about when
the first galaxies arose, and how the early universe evolved.
NASA's Hubble Space Telescope was the first to spot the
newfound galaxy. Detailed observations from the W.M. Keck
Observatory on Mauna Kea in Hawaii revealed the observed
light dates to when the universe was only 950 million years
old; the universe formed about 13.7 billion years ago. Infrared
data from both Hubble and NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope
revealed the galaxy's stars are quite mature, having formed
when the universe was just a toddler at 200 million years old.
The galaxy's image is being magnified by the gravity of a
massive cluster of galaxies (Abell 383) parked in front of it,
making it appear 11 times brighter. This phenomenon is called
gravitational lensing.

The cost in China currency approximately $ 4000 (it is about Rs2000).
A factory manager was interviewed and he testified that it is effective because he is a frequent customer.
It is a delicacy whereby expensive herbs are added to boil the baby with chicken meat for eight hours of boiling and steaming.
He pointed to his second wife next to him. She is 19 years old. The 62-year-old man testified that they have sex everyday.

Those couples who did not want to sell dead babies, placentas can be accepted also for couple of hundreds.
One local reporter was quoted as saying that this is the problem arising from Chinese taking too much attention in health or is the backfire effect when China introduced one child in a family policy.
This heinous crimes rise from the fact that majority of Chinese people prefer to have male babies and the poor families end up selling their female babies.
